Lay Legal Advocacy Training
When: Tuesday, February 3 – Thursday, February 5, 2015
Where: Phoenix, AZ
Time: 8:30a – 5:00p each day
What’s the scoop? This three day training provides the tools for advocates to assist survivors with navigating Arizona’s judicial system. The training is designed to inform a diverse audience of advocates about domestic violence, legal advocacy and legal advocacy methods; build and further develop legal advocacy skills by educating the participants on the judicial process; educate advocates on civil and criminal law matters related to sexual and domestic violence; and develop the confidence of advocates by empowering them with the tools they need to assist survivors with obtaining justice within Arizona’s legal system. What’s the scoop?
This 8 hour training addresses how domestic violence affects children, families and parenting. The training is designed for home visitors and other professionals working directly with children and families. Topics will include the health outcomes related to domestic violence, reproductive coercion and birth control sabotage, how domestic violence affects both the victim and abusive partners ability to parent, mandated reporting, helping families promote resiliency for children, and secondary trauma for service providers. Webinar: Reproductive Coercion and Birth Control Sabotage
When: Thursday, March 5, 2015

What’s the scoop? Define reproductive coercion and birth control sabotage and discuss how they are exhibited in real world situations. Attendees will learn how to safely screen for reproductive coercion and birth control sabotage and provide intervention and resources when appropriate. Register for the webinar here.

The Sharing Experience: From Violence in Our Lives to Peace in Our Communities
When: Monday, March 9 – Friday, March 13, 2015
Where: Phoenix, AZ

What’s the scoop? This is a five day interactive basic Domestic Violence training. This training will include topics such as: teen dating violence, safety planning, the effects of domestic violence on children, legal issues, dynamics of power and oppression, advocacy, empowerment, crisis intervention and self care. This training is designed for professionals working with survivors, people who abuse or children exposed to domestic violence. Register here.

Webinar: Mandatory Reporting
When: Wednesday, March 11, 2015
Time: 9:30a – 11:30a
What’s the scoop? Outline what Arizona law says about mandated reporting and how it relates to domestic and sexual violence. Major topics discussed will include whether a report must always be made when there is sexual or domestic violence in the home, how to make a report and remain supportive of the victim, and how to support a victim through the child welfare process.
