Advocacy Month 2021

ACESDV Advocacy Day is changing to accommodate the special circumstances of 2021. Rather than subjecting you to a single packed day – we are extending our virtual advocacy efforts over the month of March. We will still spend a full day together, just over the course of several weeks.

Each session will build on each other walking us through the full process of requesting, preparing for and holding meetings. We will be building towards a combined effort to increase federal funding for domestic violence and sexual violence, while also working on our state agenda.

Week 1

March 11 Wednesday 2 – 3 pm Advocating for Survivor Services & Prevention with Congress, Webinar Presented by RALIANCE

March 12 Friday 9 -10:00 am Advocating for Domestic and Sexual Violence Service, Interactive Zoom Presented by ACESDV

Informal discussion of the ACESDV policy strategy to support funding for domestic violence and sexual violence services. We will review the issues regarding VAWA, VOCA, SASP, and RPE funding to understand where we can have impact.

Week 2

March 19 Friday 9 -10:00 am Meeting with District Representatives 101, Interactive Zoom Presented by ACESDV

Informal discussion of the basics of meeting with your legislator. We will learn how to request a meeting, identify who we should be meeting with, and who to include. We will request meetings during the meeting and create a group calendar for impact. Tools and outlines will be shared.

Week 3

March 26 Friday 9 -10:00 am Prepare for Meeting with District Representatives, Interactive Zoom Presented by ACESDV

Informal discussion of how to prep for a scheduled meeting with your district representatives. We will work to modify ACESDV talking points with local information, and hear from active advocates with success stories. Tools and outlines will be shared.

Week 4

April 2 Friday 9 -10:00 am Arizona Legislators, Interactive Zoom Presented by ACESDV

We will hear from Arizona State legislators before identifying any state advocacy needs and understanding our local impact. Share how your meetings went with your district representatives!
