End Sexual & Domestic Violence
Ashley M. Ruiz PhD, RN is a Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. Her current research focuses on examining the healthcare response to Black and Indigenous women sexual assault survivors, and specifically examining interactions that cause secondary victimization, or re-traumatization, by healthcare providers.
Objectives:
1. Discussion of the importance of centering voices of survivors of sexual assault in research to inform practice, policy, and education.
2. An overview of previous research conducted examining secondary victimization within the nurse-patient relationship from the voices of African American women in urban metropolitan cities in the Midwest.
3. In translating previous research in the Midwest, what does this mean for services responding to sexual assault here in Arizona? We will end this webinar by reflecting on potential future directions in Arizona.
