End Sexual & Domestic Violence
Join the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV) as we explore how to end violence in our communities. We will look beyond criminal justice interventions to examine strategies for alternative responses to violence in unserved and underserved communities. We hope to honor and learn from what is already working in Arizona’s communities and brainstorm next steps to increase our responsiveness.
Author and international speaker, Lavon Morris-Grant is the keynote speaker. Her book, “Whom Shall I Fear: A Spiritual Journey of A Battered Woman”, is a memoir of her life relating to domestic violence after being shot four times by her husband. Ms. Morris-Grant will share the impact of domestic violence on her family and their long journey to recovery. Ms. Morris-Grant has been described as a fearless and unapologetic speaker who speaks the truth about systemic barriers that impact individuals’ lives.
Legal and social justice consultant, Dr. Aneesah Nadir, president of the Islamic Social Services Association of Arizona, will share information related to addressing DV and SV in the Muslin community. Isaac Akapnitis and Jason Vail Cruz, of Terros Health and the LGBTQ Consortium will address responses to violence in the LGBTQ community and other communities are pending confirmation.
