Queering Sexual Violence Services: Improving Service Provision with LGBTQ Survivors

May 10, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) communities have become a visible minority in most areas of the United States today. Also known as Gender and Sexual Minorities (GSM), these individuals face daily trauma and discrimination, including high rates of sexual violence. This four-hour workshop will provide current best practices for serving the LGBTQ+ community. It will explore different identities within the community, institutional barriers that prevent LGBTQ+ survivors from reporting and seeking services, and how to develop culturally responsive, affirming services within victim service programs. This workshop is appropriate for advocates, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and others working with LGBTQ+ sexual violence survivors.
